“The Heart of the Mount Vernon Route Restored”

Michael Percy, owner of Griffin Insurance and a longtime Mount Vernon resident is a humble man.

Humble but passionate, never the less; he as a member of the Foundation Park Conservation Group.

He convinced during restoration of the old Pennsylvania Railroad station (soon to be part of Mount Vernon’s Foundation Park) that the Kokosing Valley Central Model Railroad Club should be part of the new HOOT(Heart of Ohio Trail)/Kokosing Gap Trail’s visitor center.

The Knox County Parks Board and the city’s parks department offices will join the upper floor with the visitor center.

The Kokosing Valley Central currently resides in the lower floor of the station and looks to be part of a local attraction and visitor’s stop.

Michael stated, “We wanted to this be a passage way into our community, it was once this (via the PRR) People will want stop by while riding the trails and we want this to be a hub for the community”

The connection between the two bike trails will be completed by August 1st. The work on-going is hoped to be finished within 2014.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will by May 2nd, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Pictures will be posted on the Ohio Railroader Facebook page as well as the website.
