Ohio N Scale Weekend Review 2019

One more day (Sunday May 19th) and the 11th Ohio N Scale Weekend will be in the books….

Major takeaways from the Saturday session…

1.The hobby is growing by leaps and bounds

Not only in the technology with attendees for share pics and videos instantly; but in the way participants operating trains. 70 to 80 percent of the layouts had at least one person running their train by cell phone app.

The fact I seen many club layouts had more younger members and even members with kids involved is great. The old stigma of old guys running trains was blown away by all.

Even several women modelers (whether be wives of club members, relatives or even stand alone train enthusiasts) were in attendance. The hobby of model railroading welcomes all who wish to run trains.

2. Craig Sonnen’s legacy lives on

Craig Sonnen, former Central Ohio N-Trak secretary and a main force behind the weekend; has great fellow members carrying the torch. The welcoming and inviting spirit carried through even with non-club members and attendees. Several T-Trak modelers formed a tribute modular layout dubbed “The Charleston, Athens and Sandusky” This was Sonnen’s long time free lance railroad. Some came as far as Thunder Bay, ON, as well as regulars from Columbus.

Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Maryland brought folks as well paying tribute to a well known modeler and community leader.

3. This was one of the best turnouts.

The general public came out with kids as well as adults, visiting the several layouts. Layout operators were repeatedly interacting with visitors, sharing knowledge and joy.
