The 2019 Fostoria Railroad Fest aka Rail Fest (Sept. 28th, normally the 4th Saturday of the month, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) was an enjoyable experience.

It is a train show, swap meet, community event and much more.

Hosted at the Fostoria Jr./Sr. High School Building on the northwest side of town; it is a mere 5/10 minutes away from the world famous Railfan Viewing Area and Park.

A mere $4 for adults, free admission for children under 10 years old; it is an extremely great value.

Area and regional model railroad clubs had displays. Notable displays including “The Hobo Gang” (local modular HO friends), Saginaw Valley Model Railroad Club, Northwestern Modular Railroaders and Lansing Area N-Trak.

Food on site was provided by Fostoria Local Schools with local community volunteers and workers manning the cafeteria.

Food was basic but ample. For a chef salad, hot dog basket, BBQ Pork sandwich basket and chicken tenders plus drinks was $19.

With the free admission for the kids 10 and under, an additional grab bag gift was given to the kids presenting the green ticket. There was also crafts and a Thomas/wooden train play table available.

I do try to plan to make this next year; for Tanya, Hannah and myself nearly spent two hours and then some.

Vendors for the swap meet was plenty with great selection of many railroad related items and model trains.

Again; more details for future Rail Fests and other events can be found at the websites provided.

For major info on the railpark; please refer to our 2017 review of the Rail Park…

The Railpark has become not only more family friendly, but pet friendly; too.

Many railfans and visitors were with their children, pets or both.

I highly recommend , if able; to make a whole weekend for a great family outing.

Fostoria continues to grow its rail and historical tourism.
