The closure of one of Dayton’s storied conference and gathering spaces was not going to stop NMRA Div 3 Miami Valley Division.

Their 41st show had found a new home at a vacant Elder Beerman space in the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield.

Gail Richardson (Publicity Director/Co-Webmaster/Facebook Admin), Rick Lach(Supertendent) and Dana Yarnell (Co-Webmaster) helped spearhead the effort to find a new home.

“We started our division in 1975,” explained Rick, “We became a non-profit in the 1990’s. We have been manned by volunteers since day one. We are here to spread the joy of model railroading. This is why we chose to have the show in November, to help celebrate National Model Railroad Month.”

Speaking of the show, here’s basic details….

One of Ohio’s Largest Train Shows; they will feature layouts from local clubs as well as clubs from around the state.

Dayton N-Trak, Crossroads Model Railroad Club, Miami Valley Modualr Modelers are just of the few hometown clubs. Central Ohio N-Trak, Central Ohio S-Gaugers, and Queen City N-gineers have visited the show in past and expect to be in attendance.

All scales of model railroading will be represented at the show. Included, a large O Scale layout that has been part of Miami Valley history will be operating.

“Upper Valley Mall management has been very happy to host us,” Gail Richardson chirped, preparing to meet with Upper Valley mall folks. “The location is so great to be close to freeways, I-75 to west, I-70 to the south.”

The show will feature family friendly activities and giveaways for kids of all ages.

As Nick Bulger before him, Rick Lach has taken the torch of leading their Boy Scout Model Railroading Merit program. This will continue at this year’s show. Since the start, NMRA Division 3 has handed out over 1,000 merit badges. The young engineers would construct a freight car and take it home after the show.

Other events included how-to clinics, layout construction, railroad historical societies on hand, and clinics on train and track maintenance.
